The Long Game
From After School
to the Pros
We’re building a basketball organisation that starts in an after-school gym and works toward a professional team for Chatham-Kent. This page is the honest version of that plan — what’s real today, what isn’t yet, and what it would take.
What “To the Pros” Actually Means
That's the path we're building as an organisation — from after-school programs today toward a professional team for Chatham-Kent. It's about where the club is going, not a promise about any one player.
We’re not going to tell you that signing your eight-year-old up for after-school basketball puts them on a professional roster. Almost nobody makes it, and any organisation that implies otherwise is selling something. What we can promise is a well-coached afternoon, a coach who knows your kid’s name, and a club that’s trying to build something worth being part of.
The Three Stages
Where the organisation is now, what comes next, and where it's all pointed.
What we run now
Running nowReal programs, running in Chatham-Kent, that kids can be part of right now.
What we're building next
Building towardThe next layer, as the programs grow and the demand is there to support them.
Where this is headed
Building towardA professional basketball team that Chatham-Kent can call its own — and a pathway that starts in our own gym. The near-term route is a semi-pro Basketball Super League franchise; nothing is confirmed yet.
Why Here
Chatham-Kent has always had the players. What it's missing is the ladder.
Kids here play. They play in driveways, in school gyms, at the park until the lights go out. What happens to most of them is that the game slowly runs out of places to go — a season ends, a team doesn’t come back, and that’s that.
A pro team matters because of what sits underneath it. When a town has a team, it has a reason to build gyms, run programs, and keep coaches around. It gives a twelve-year-old somewhere to point at. That’s the actual argument — not the roster, the ladder underneath it.
So we’re building the ladder from the bottom up, in the order that makes sense: programs kids can join this year, then leagues and teams as demand supports them, then a professional side that Chatham-Kent can call its own. Each rung has to hold weight before we build the next one.
The concrete near-term route is a semi-professional franchise through the Basketball Super League, which is expanding across Ontario and where Chatham-Kent is a candidate market. That’s the realistic first rung of “pro” for a town this size — and it’s the one we’re actively working on. The details of that campaign are here.
To be direct about where things stand: the team is a goal, not a done deal.Nothing is confirmed, no league has committed, and we won’t pretend otherwise. What moves it forward is a community that shows up.
We're not registering a club program with Ontario Basketball, and we're not here to replace the organisations already running rep and travel basketball in Chatham-Kent. Our programs help kids develop — and make the teams that already exist.
How It Actually Moves
Three concrete things, in order of how much they matter.
Put a Kid in a Program
The pathway is only real if the bottom of it is full. Every registration is what funds the next thing we build.

Community demand is the argument. Pledging support and registering season-ticket interest is how that argument gets made.
